Oil Pollution...It Must Stop

Oil Spill that stretches for miles beyond the coastline

There are many alternatives to fossil fuels, some that are better like solar power and ethanol and wind power and some that are, like nuclear power. Solar and wind power are natural resources that do not harm the environment and do not take much to convert into energy. The problem is that we have big oil corporations that have been around for a long time. They started off by butchering whales for their skin and now they are drilling into the ocean floor. Using these alternative energy sources means that they lose money, and that is something that they refuse to do, even if they know that what they create is killing the earth. And while there are laws like the Oil Pollution Act that limits these companies power, it still gives them so much control. Another issue that feeds into the problem is that many people are blinded by the media and they don't see the truth that what they buy not only causes damage to themselves, but to the environment.

Fossil fuel energy makes up 80% of the total energy used, if this doesn’t strike concern into people then nothing will. I guess it’s similar to how people know that gasoline is bad for you to inhale, and yet they do it anyway. Oil is used to create so much of what we use and it doesn’t have to. If people start opening their eyes and demanding less oil use, it can happen; all that is needed is more people to support this movement.
