Great Australian Blight Oil Drill…Why Do We Need Another Drill?

BP oil company originally planned to create an oil ridge on the Australian Bight and its drip could potentially kill off Australian’s biggest marine ecosystem. The permits to create this ridge was passed to the Norwegian oil and gas multinational Statoil. The problem, alongside with the possible genocide of an entire ecosystem, is the damage it can cause to the Australian shorelines. There is a minimum possibility of a 750km of shoreline contamination from this oil ridge and that is not taking into consideration the effects on the ocean. It seems absurd that with all the oil companies and all the oil ridges already built that people still demand that we must build more because it is essential for our way of life, for the economy.
There is a very thin line between love and hate. While many people love nature and the scenery, the fresh air and the beauty of it, many people also don’t want to give up what they have to benefit the environment. Oil will never be erased entirely and I don’t think it should, but there must be a balance. There can’t be so much pollution and toxins being expelled into the air because very soon, the earth won’t be able to fight against it. Humans are greedy and we see that not only through oil consumption. Everything must be used in moderation, so creating another oil ridge is not using resources in moderation; it’s taking advantage of them.
